Teradomari Fish Market Street ~ A Fresh Seafood Adventure Awaits in Teradomari! ~

Teradomari Fish Market Street is a bustling market where fresh seafood from Teradomari Port and all across Japan comes together. It’s the perfect place for a “food walk,” where you can enjoy your purchases immediately without hesitation. With about 11 shops lined up, the market stretches roughly 200 to 300 meters. Though it’s not a particularly long distance, the tightly packed stalls overflowing with seafood, sushi, and grilled skewers are sure to whet your appetite!

How to Get There

Address: Shimoaramachi, Teradomari, Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture (Google Maps)
Nearest Station: JR Echigo Line, Teradomari Station
Route from the Nearest Station: About a 20-minute bus ride. From the “Teradomari Station Bus Stop” in front of the station, board the bus and get off at the “Sakana no Ichiba-dori Bus Stop.” Teradomari Fish Market Street is right in front of the bus stop.

For those coming by car, free parking is available. It’s located directly across from the market, so just head towards the market and you’ll have no trouble finding it.

The bus stop at Teradomari Station is located about 50 meters to the left after exiting the station (there is only one exit). While it’s possible to walk to the market from Teradomari Station, it would take approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes, so it’s not very practical. Taxis aren’t available either, so taking the bus from the station is highly recommended.

If you’re traveling to Teradomari from Tokyo, there are two main routes. Note that route 1 will take you directly to the market.

  1. Route 1 (direct to the market):
    • Take the Joetsu Shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Nagaoka Station (about 1 hour 40 minutes, reserved seat: ¥9,110).
    • Exit from the Oteguchi (North Exit) of Nagaoka Station, where you’ll find the bus terminal right in front of you.
    • From bus stop 12, board a bus heading directly to the market. Several routes use bus stop 12, so be sure to take the Teradomari Line. Get off at the “Sakana no Ichiba-dori Bus Stop” (about 1 hour 20 minutes, ¥930).
    • No reservation is required for the bus; you can simply board when it arrives.

Route 2 (via Teradomari Station):

  • Take the Joetsu Shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Tsubame-Sanjo Station (about 1 hour 50 minutes, reserved seat: ¥9,770).
  • From Tsubame-Sanjo Station, take the Yahiko Line to Yoshida Station, then transfer to the Echigo Line and get off at Teradomari Station (about 30 minutes).
  • When purchasing your Shinkansen ticket at Tokyo Station, mention that you are traveling to Teradomari Station. The ticket price of ¥9,770 will include the fare to Teradomari Station.

Please note that the train transfer at both Tsubame-Sanjo and Yoshida stations could involve a wait time of 1 to 2 hours, so be mindful of this when planning your trip.
